Essen

Did you know, that Essen is the third greenest city in Germany? Taking into consideration that the city used to be one of the main coal and steel manufacturers for Germany, this fact is pretty impressive.

The amount of cultural activities that this city offers is vast. Old coal mines and factories are home to the art and cultural movement. Interesting spots are the Zeche Zollverein a UNESCO world heritage site, and Villa Hügel the former residence of the Krupp family.

If there is little interest in culture and more in shopping, Essen is also a shopping city with a large selection of stores.

Essen is always worth a visit. During the “Essener Lichtwochen” the city is illuminated by huge light shows giving it an additional romantic flair during Christmas time.
